Each of these operating environments has tools and procedures that can create greater levels of efficiency in the infrastructure.
Consolidation
Zunesis utilizes advanced software tools (all non-agent) to rapidly assess customer environments to determine the best possible  “future state” architecture for consolidation. For x86 server environments, Zunesis uses a tool from VMware called Capacity Planner. This tool generates a complete inventory of all x86 servers in a given environment, their configuration and their use of computing resources (CPU, memory and storage). Typically, Zunesis suggests that this monitoring tool be deployed for a period of 30 days to assess peak loads for end of day, end of week and end of month tasks. Once this process is complete, Zunesis delivers a comprehensive report to the client outlining their current environment, inventory and overall utilization of the server resources. The report also includes consolidation options represented in target architectures with pricing included. Finally, the report includes a detailed financial analysis including a Return on Investment (ROI) model that will provide the necessary details for the CFO or Controller.

For storage consolidation assessments, Zunesis uses agent-free tools including Brocade SAN Health and Abrevity to assess the current storage environments. Zunesis uses these products to aid in performing data classification assessments that characterize the age, ownership, and access frequency of unstructured data. Additional customer benefits include reduced backup windows and lower management costs. These storage assessments are used by organizations to mitigate information security risks, more efficiently comply with legal discovery requests, or to allocate data to the appropriate storage resource. Once a storage assessment is completed, Zunesis develops a  comprehensive report that describes (in detail) the current storage environment and provides a recommended consolidated storage / data protection environment. These reports also provide a detailed financial analysis of the proposed “target architectures”. In many cases, today’s recommended storage solutions include a tiered data management strategy that can dramatically reduce the overall cost of storage.
Brocade offers a very effective tool (SAN Health) to help consolidate and optimize the storage area network fabric. Zunesis uses this tool to generate a diagram of the SAN and provide switch details down to the individual port level. In addition to static information the SAN Health tool provides performance data to help identify bottlenecks. A SAN Health report can help organizations determine the optimum fabric configuration for their SAN thereby reducing cost, risk and operational complexity.
